Overhauling the Stormont system would provide a better route to delivery

It is often easy to blame politicians for the failings in our politics: we had three years of no government, and just two years after resolving this, a leaderless Executive following the resignation of the First Minister. Whilst politicians were responsible for taking these decisions, over 20 years later it is increasingly clear that the institutions created by the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement are struggling to accommodate a changing society and the expectations that people have of their elected representatives.

Brandon Lewis Goes to Washington

Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Brandon Lewis MP is at Capitol Hill to compel the US Government to apply influence and pressure to the EU and scrap the NI Protocol after DUP MLA Paul Givan resigned as First Minister and taking deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill with him just over two years after a three-year political vacuum.

Amidst the uncertainty there is one certainty: An Election is Coming

As we start 2022, there are many uncertainties in the year ahead. How hard will Omicron hit our struggling health service? What next for the NI Protocol? Can legislation be progressed and implemented on key issues such as Climate Change, Organ Donation and the Budget to name a few? One thing we can be certain of however is that there will be an Assembly election, held on or before 5th May 2022.
