Hear Her! Free training sessions for women interested in running for election

19 January 2022 - by Roisin Burns

50:50 NI have launched “Hear Her!”, a dedicated free training programme aimed at getting more women into elected politics.

50:50 NI is about getting more women into elected politics. This training programme will demystify the process of standing for election and will give participants the essential practical skills and knowledge to deliver an effective election campaign.

Currently, women are underrepresented at council and Assembly level. At local government, 26% of Councillors and 18% of Mayors or Council chairs are women, whilst at Assembly level, women account for 33% of MLAs.

50:50 NI’s founder Aoife Clements said;

“It is so important that our political institutions reflect our population, and that any barriers to entry for women into politics are removed. That is why 50:50 NI have partnered with Stratagem to design and deliver “Hear Her!”, which will support women from all walks of life who are interested in running for election.”

Each of the three sessions, delivered by Stratagem, will have a different focus, ranging from how political structures operate to how to run a political campaign.

All the sessions will take place virtually via Zoom and are open to any women who are interested in running for elected office in Northern Ireland.
