Training - British Council

Client Profile and Issue
The British Council is the UK's international organisation for educational opportunities and cultural relations. It runs an intercultural dialogue project to build trust and understanding across cultures in Europe. A major international Congress was organised to bring together participants from a number of countries with different experiences of migration, economic success and social integration or segregation.
As part of the Congress, participants were trained in a range of areas which would help them explore key issues, form a network for activism, and work co-operatively in the interest of social cohesion and equality of opportunity in the future.
Our Strategy Stratagem put together a tailored package on high-level advocacy to provide participants at the Congress with the key tools necessary to return to their home countries and lobby effectively on the issues that affect them.
Stratagem Consultant Gary McKeown travelled to the Congress in Poland and delivered the training lectures to four groups of participants, sharing experiences from Northern Ireland and giving advice on how to engage effectively in public affairs activity.
Outcome The feedback from participants was very positive. Delegates learnt about the skills and nuances of effective lobbying and shared experiences from their own countries as well as getting insight into the operation of government in more established democracies such as the UK and Ireland.
