Taking our Corporate Social Responsibility Seriously

Everyone at Stratagem works hard to put responsibility - corporate, professional and personal at the heart of our business practice.

Developing policies that reflect this is a continual and challenging process for a small public affairs consultancy, however, it is a challenge that we are proud to say, has been embraced by the entire team and is integrated across all aspects of our work.

Stratagem is conscious of its position in the space between politics and the community and has therefore devoted real effort to ensuring that benefits accrue to both.  Stratagem deliberately and consciously located on Belfast's Donegall Road a decade ago in order to help make a contribution to the regeneration of this area.

While some of our activities are essentially philanthropic, such as cash donations, we also encourage our staff through £for£ employer matched contributions through the CAF Give As You Earn Scheme, we are motivated by more than a sense of charity or ethical and social responsibility.

We want to play a stimulating role in responding to an evolving business environment as well as changing societal expectations. We believe that companies have a long term interest in fostering a healthy community and that working to this end with employees, customers and suppliers has direct benefits for all involved.

In our wish to help others develop networks we have supported mental health charities Aware Defeat Depression and Rethink participate on Belfast's Common Purpose Programme by the sponsoring of dedicated NGO places.

We have engaged in a variety of partnership projects that have resulted in real and meaningful benefits for the environment, the local community in south Belfast, our employees and our clients. Our activities have included supporting the development of a new local community centre (Windsor Women's Centre) the award-winning development of artistic hoardings for display outside the Ulster Museum created by a range of local community groups, and support for the David Ervine Foundation in its local youth work. We have supported Tinderbox Theatre Company's 'Vote, vote, vote…' production, for obvious political awareness reasons!

A key aspect of our CSR policy is our environmental strategy. Within this, Stratagem undertakes conducts a regular environmental audit of our offices and integrates environmental responsibility into all aspects of our work. Through working with the Woodland Trust, we have achieved carbon neutrality by offsetting our carbon emissions and adapting our activities to minimise our impact on the environment. We plant trees, we encourage cycling to work and reduce, recycle and reuse as much as any inspirational schoolchild would!
