Mark Shepherd – Information Officer

Mark started working with Stratagem in 2006. His work now covers a broad range of activities including tailored political research for client projects and campaigns as well as in depth monitoring and analysis of politicial activity in the Northern Ireland Assembly. He is also responsible for Stratagem's coverage of the European political institutions and assists with the compilation of Stratagem’s full range of weekly and monthly political and sectoral monitors. Furthermore Mark uses his expertise in the running of consultations to help clients achieve better standards of consultation practice.

Mark works with a range of clients across a range of sectors including equality, disability and criminal justice. In October 2007 Mark helped establish a new MLA research panel in association with ComRes, a specialist London-based Research Company. The key purpose of the panel research is to improve the communication process between the Assembly and those organisations that are affected by its work. Mark has considerable expertise in, and knowledge of, elections and electoral systems at home and abroad. He covered extensively the 2007 Northern Ireland Assembly Elections for Stratagem and has built up a strong portfolio of psephological skills.

Before joining Stratagem, Mark’s expertise lay mainly in international politics.  He received an MA (Hons) from the University of St Andrews in International Relations and also holds an M.Litt in International Political Thought.  From his studies Mark has built up a significant knowledge base of the workings of international bodies, governmental and non-governmental organisations in Europe and throughout the world.  He previously worked as a research analyst in the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence, where he specialised in East Asian political violence and the terrorism of religious extremists.
