TOM ELLIOTT MLA (UUP)
Tom Elliott MLA

Tom Elliott was born in December 1963 and educated at Enniskillen College of Agriculture. He manages a family run beef and dairy farm near Tullyrain, Ballinamallard. In addition to his responsibilities as a Fermanagh Councillor he is Chair of the local Policing Partnership and is UUP Agriculture and Rural Development Spokesperson.  Tom has been an MLA for Fermanagh & South Tyrone since 2003 and was comfortably elected on the 2nd Count in the 2007 Assembly Election. Tom is Deputy Chair of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee and a member of the OFMDFM Committee in the Assembly.

 


ARLENE FOSTER MLA (DUP)
Arlene Foster MLA

Arlene Foster was born in July 1970 and is married with three children.  A practicing solicitor, she was Chair of the Ulster Unionist Association while studying law at Queen's University of Belfast.  Arlene left the Ulster Unionist Party to join the Democratic Unionist Party in January 2004 after election to the Assembly in November 2003 for the UUP. Her areas of interest are law and order, children and young people's issues and human rights. She is a previous Member of the Northern Ireland Policing Board (April 2006 - May 2007). In 2007 Foster topped the poll at the Assembly Election in the Fermanagh & South Tyrone constituency.  Arlene is Minister for the Environment in the Executive. In 2008 she won a Women in Public Life Award for Devolved Assembly Member of the Year.


TOMMY GALLAGHER MLA (SDLP)
Tommy Gallagher MLA

Tommy Gallagher was born in 1942 in Ballyshannon, County Donegal.  He was educated at St Malachy's College Belfast, then St Joseph's College before graduating from Queen's University, Belfast. A teacher by profession, he is married to Eileen and has three children, one daughter and two sons. He was first elected to Fermanagh Council in 1989.  His interests include cross-border economic development, and he is currently SDLP Party Spokesperson on the Environment and Western Services Development.  After successful re-election in 2007, Tommy is now serving his third term as an MLA for Fermanagh & South Tyrone. Gallagher is a member of the Environment Committee and the Health and Social Services Committee in the Assembly.


MICHELLE GILDERNEW MP MLA (SF)
Michelle Gildernew MLA

Michelle Gildernew was born in 1970 and was educated at St Catherine's College in Armagh and at the University of Ulster.  She is married with two sons.  She was elected as MP for Fermanagh & South Tyrone with a majority of 53 in the 2001 General Election and she went on to get re-elected MP in 2005, significantly increasing her majority to 4,582. In the 2007 Assembly Election Gildernew secured 7,023 first preference votes. Although this was an increase in Gildernew’s votes since 2003 it wasn't enough to take the top spot which went to the DUP's Arlene Foster. Gildernew is Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development in the Assembly Executive.

GERRY MCHUGH MLA (IND)

Gerry McHugh MLA

Gerry McHugh was elected to Fermanagh District Council in 1993 and after standing in the 1997 Westminster election for Sinn Féin was elected as a member of the Assembly in 1998.  Gerry is a life member of the Northern Ireland Agricultural Producers Association (NIAPA).   He lost his Assembly seat to running mate Tom O’Reilly in 2003, but was successfully re-elected in 2007 on the eighth count. Gerry is a former Sinn Féin Party Spokesperson for Agriculture and Ethnic Minority Issues. He resigned from Sinn Féin on 30 November 2007 accusing the party of "undemocratic principles". He now sits as an Independent Member in the Assembly and currently sits on the Enterprise, Trade and Investment Committee.

 


LORD MORROW OF CLOGHER VALLEY (MAURICE MORROW) MLA (DUP)
Maurice Morrow MLA

Maurice Morrow was born in 1948 and was educated at Dungannon Technical College.  He is married with two daughters. He is a former estate agent, and has served on Dungannon District Council since 1973. Morrow was Minister for Social Development from July 2000 to November 2001, as part of the DUP's rotation scheme in the 1998-2003 Assembly. He is DUP Party Chair and Chief Whip. He was elevated to the Lords in 2006 and is known as Lord Morrow of Clogher Valley.  Morrow has been an MLA since 1998 representing his constituency of Fermanagh & South Tyrone.  He was successfully re-elected in 2007 behind running-mate Arlene Foster MLA. Lord Morrow is Chair of the Committee on Procedures and a member of the Business Committee in the Assembly.
